Scotland Dee report 2023

Scotland Dee report 2023

We are back from beautiful River Dee after 2 weeks with plenty of fun. Many thanks to everyone who joined this trip to Dee. It has been a pleasure all the way to be your tour leader.

We start by congratulating Camilla H. from Sweden on her first springer. It was incredibly enjoyable to hear the report from Camilla, who was fishing at Sluie when the salmon took Camilla's beautiful fly. A fly that Stefan, Camilla's husband, had tied for River Dee. Congratulations Camilla, and we think back to last year's trip when you had a fine salmon almost all the way in. It was extra nice that this year it went well all the way. Excellent. Stefan followed up with another springer this year too at Little Blackhall, and lost a few more.

Ole Kristian O. from Os and Bergen was again on a Scotland trip and is an experienced Dee fisher. Ole landed 6 fine bright salmon in just a few days' fishing. That was very enjoyable, and we congratulate him once again. There may well be another trip next year, if we know Ole right. He loves Deeside in spring, and we understand that well.

Åke from Sweden was back on Dee after a break of a few years. Åke landed a fine salmon after only a few hours' fishing. It was incredibly enjoyable, and we congratulate Åke on a 12 lb salmon that had a few lice on its head and was therefore quite fresh in the river. That is one of the reasons we visit Scotland in spring. We are hunting these beautiful bright salmon that arrive early and are so beautiful and strong. A shame we did not get more salmon pictures, but that is how it is when you are alone and have to land fish. It is not always easy to take good pictures when the fish needs to be released quickly back into the river. We live well with that. The experience is with us regardless.

Below are some unedited film clips from when Åke plays and lands a Dee springer.

It was pleasant to have a shared dinner with other Dee fishers from Norway one evening in Banchory. Always enjoyable to meet and discuss salmon fishing with like-minded people. Excellent, Roald M., who got in touch and booked us all in. Good atmosphere and many good stories this evening.

Below is a picture from the dinner.

Some more pictures from the trip.

In summary, these were brilliant days in Scotland. Many new enjoyable stories were told. Many new acquaintances were made. Good food and wine were served. New flies, rods and lines were assessed and tested. The weather was good and varied. Fine fish were landed, and even more salmon were lost after good fights.

Once again, yours truly thanks you for brilliant days together along beautiful Dee.

Best regards
