The pictures above are from the journey. We had one overnight stay on the way into Reykjavik city, and a visit to the centre and Hallgrimskirkja belongs with it.
Always pleasant to return to Iceland and trout fishing in Litlaa. This year's trip was very enjoyable. Here are some pictures from the vegetation around the river and inspection of some craters on the way to Litlaa.
Above, some pictures from the river. There is a lovely frame around Litlaa. We never tire of this...
Henrik from Bergen had a flying start to his Litlaa fishing. After only a few casts in the pool just above the canal, for those who know the place, Henrik had a brilliant fight. This fat and fine trout of 58 cm was safely guided into the net and carefully released. Congratulations again Henrik on this fish and the other fish you landed on this trip.
The first fish for Jørn Erik weighed 1.8 kilos. Beautiful fish and super strong. Unedited film with commentary by Helge V.
Another fine experience for Jørn Erik. A fine trout was landed, just over 60 cm and very fat. Unedited film with commentary by Helge V.
Bent from Bergen has been fishing for many years. He joined us to Litlaa for the first time and had great experiences that will be remembered for a long time. Very enjoyable.
Bent enjoying himself with a fine trout, getting close to landing. Unedited film with commentary by Helge V.
This year's trip was 4 full fishing days from 2 May to 6 May. A period we enjoy.
This year's trip to Iceland and Litlaa was once again a fine experience. What a brilliant group of fishers joined us and helped make the trip a truly enjoyable journey from beginning to end. Thank you to all of you who joined and made it so pleasant.
The pictures and film above show some of what we experienced on this trip. Much of what happened was not captured on film, as moments can be difficult to catch, especially when fishing alone and it can be demanding to take good pictures while a large trout must be handled carefully and released quickly. But we live well with that, as long as the memories are stored in all of us who went to Iceland.
2instincts and yours truly have visited Litlaa for many years. We feel we know the area and the river quite well. Over the years, we have had fantastically good fishing with many large fish. That was not the case for us this year. We felt there were fewer fish in the river, and the water level was also lower than we are used to. What caused this, we do not know, but we will try to find out in the time ahead.
We still caught many fine fish on this year's trip, but not the numbers we are used to. That gives us reason to follow the catches going forward and also see whether the water level has changed and stabilised at a new level, or whether this was only a period of variation. We are well aware that when Iceland rumbles and new volcanic eruptions are underway, the water level and water supply to the river Litlaa can change overnight. We have seen this before. We are therefore very excited about what comes next for this unique river with all its fantastically fine and large fish. An update on this topic will come when it is ready.
We are very pleased that everyone who joined us to Litlaa this May week had fine fish in the net, while some fish were lost after a short time and some were almost in the net. That is how it is with small flies and thin leader. We have to gamble a little to get them to take when the water is as clear as it was this time. At times we saw large fish pushing water as they hunted small fish. That is magical in itself, seeing fish up towards 6 kilos hunting. It is not everyday fare, to put it that way.
Finally, it must be mentioned that marinated lamb was the closing dinner. My goodness, that hit the spot. Absolutely brilliant, and it is definitely on the menu for our next trip to Iceland. These trips do something to us, and yours truly is already preparing for the next trip to Iceland. Hopefully it will be this autumn.
Best regards from a happy and satisfied tour leader
