Service and new dreams

Service and new dreams

For many, winter is a time to sum up the fishing season that has passed, while new and exciting trips are planned. It is also a time when you often have time to look over reels, lines and other bits and pieces, so they are both lubricated and clean for the coming season. I find this a pleasant and relaxing part of my fly fishing, and it gives a good feeling. Just knowing that the reel, or reels, have been cleaned and perhaps given a drop of oil here and there gives a good feeling. Personally, I remove the entire backing and wind it on again while letting it run through my hand to check that it is whole and sound. This kind of work is simply enjoyable and often gives inspiration for new adventures.

Some time ago I built a rack for hanging my waders. Picture 1. This may also be an idea for more of you out there. It does not require much material, and most people have the saw needed to do the job. Good luck. I am sure it will also give a good feeling, while the waders hang airy and well. When they hang in the rack, it is also a good opportunity to look over the whole pair of waders to see if there are scratches or anything else that should be repaired or glued.

Furthermore, it is also smart and pleasant to look over all the fly lines. And many of us have plenty of them. I wash them lightly in lukewarm water and pull them through a dry cloth a couple of times. It is amazing how much dirt collects during an active fishing season. And it is lovely to have them clean and fine when spring arrives. Also remember to check the loops, which most lines have today. They may need a little extra care to last another season.

This was a small reminder that this is a good time to look over the equipment so it is ready for next season. Good luck, enjoy the service work, and let the dreams fly. Suddenly, it takes again...

Best regards
